Google Adwords Split Testing… What to Test in Your PPC Ads

Google Adwords Split Testing… What to Test in Your PPC Ads

All right… in this episode we are going
to be talking about what should I test in my ads? Now one of the biggest
mistakes we see people make is they’re trying to test too many different things
in each particular ad. What you need to be doing is you need to be testing one
thing in an ad group. So, for instance you have two ads and they’re basically the
same you want to be testing maybe the headline just a one headline and then
the other added different headline same description pointing to the same landing
page test that once you have a winner of that one you throw the loser out and you
replace it with a new one then you can start testing other offers and different
things like that in fact I usually suggest to start with
the offer change up the offer in the ad because that is the most important thing
take a look at this example we are in a house-painting group we’ve got two ads
here health painting professionals expert on time and courteous Wearhouse
painting officers in the south metro call today for a free estimate the
second ad is the keyword insertion tool house painting professionals or whatever
keyword they insert so maybe house painting pros interior and exterior
painters we are only testing the headline here now if you go over to the
right you can see over just a very short period of time we’ve had 12 clicks to
one 10 clicks to the other almost the same interaction rate the cost per click
is quite a bit different you know six fifty versus six dollars and six cents
but you can see where we were going to let this run run a while we’re probably
going to let it get a you know between 150 and 200 clicks before we make a call
but we are going to make sure that these ads are tested against each other once
we find one that wins we’re going to throw it out and we’re going to put a
new one in now the one thing you need to make sure when you’re testing is go into
your settings go into the campaign you’re working on and the settings scroll down and make sure your add
rotation is set correct so this one says rotate evenly show ads more evenly for
at least 90 days then optimize to the basically to the winning or to the ad
that’s going to get you the most conversions now you want to have this
setting on or you want to have rotate indefinitely and the reason is that you
don’t Google is going to show you Google is going to show the ads that they think
are going to convert better or get the most clicks and run those ads most of
the time and you’re not going to get a balance test so before you start testing
make sure you have these settings set up correctly and then only test one thing
at a time perhaps it’s the offer next it could be
the headline next it could be different landing pages alright good luck thanks
